Transformational Electric Flight Workshop and Expo

7-9 June 2017

The Transformational Electric Flight Workshop & Expo being held at the 2017 AIAA AVIATION Forum brings together speakers and attendees from industry, government and academia worldwide to explore the exciting developments in the aeronautics field occurring because of electric propulsion.

X-57

From small unmanned aircraft to personal transportation to high-altitude long endurance unmanned aircraft to commercial transports, electric propulsion technologies are opening up new missions and beginning to revolutionize traditional missions. Engage with many of the pioneers in the field, make new connections, hear the latest from regulators and researchers, and learn how electric propulsion may impact your job and your everyday life. Experts from around the world will talk about the newest technologies in propulsion, airframe design and batteries, and explore the intersection of information integration, deep learning and aviation.

The Transformational Electric Flight Workshop will also feature the 4th Joint Transformative Vertical Flight Workshop. Discover the efforts to refine an industry roadmap for emerging powered lift aircraft utilizing electric/hybrid power and distributed propulsion that offers the potential to fundamentally transform aircraft configurations and operational concepts. More information about the past Transformative Vertical Flight Workshops as well as the objectives and desired outcomes of these workshops can be found here

The 2017 Electric Flight Workshop includes:

  • Interactive talks from industry pioneers, regulators, and researchers
  • An expo featuring companies utilizing electric propulsion to offer exciting new capabilities
  • Lunches with engaging speakers
  • Evening receptions for networking
  • 4th AHS/AIAA/SAE/NASA Transformative Vertical Flight Workshop

Innovation and Disruption Opportunities for Civil and Military Transport Acquisitions & Operations
Thursday, 8 June, 0800-0900 hrs

Panelists will provide their perspectives on how innovation and disruption are changing their operations, as well as strategies for future operations and acquisitions. Sustainability of aviation as a viable and affordable mode of transportation requires disruptive technologies that provide positive benefits, such as reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and cost-competitive supersonic capability. Civil transport operators are looking for more efficient aircraft that meet regulatory standards at lower operating costs. They also may be looking for more efficiency from the entire air transportation system, innovations in avionics that enhance safety or crew-airplane interactions, or improvements to the cabin systems that enhance the passenger experience. Both military and civilian operators are examining the benefits of these new technologies.
